New information regarding the soon-to-be-released Pokémon Trading Figure Game was released at the Supanova Pop Culture expo in Brisbane, Australia over the weekend. Bulbagarden's own Archaic was on hand to capture world first photos, which we bring to you in a Bulbanews exclusive.

Pokémon Trading Figures
Game mat instructions

While information on the game is still scarce, Krystal, Organised Play manager for Croftminster, the Australian disributor of the Pokémon Trading Card and Trading Figures games, and others at the Croftminster booth at Supanova were able to provide us with the following information.

  • The game should be released in late July 2006 in Australia, and around the same time in Europe and Southeast Asia. American and Japanese releases are not expected until early 2007.
  • The game rules are not yet finalized, and no example rule books or trainer cards have yet been provided to Croftminster, or any other local distributor.
  • The objective of the game is to be the first to reach your opponent's "Goal" space.
  • Starter packs include four figues with bases (including one trainer), a two-sided playmat (6-on-6 arena, and 3-on-3 quick start), a two-sided collectors sheet (how to play guide and figures checklist), a rulebook, and three trainer cards.
Starter packs
Booster pack
  • The two starter packs are "Flamethrower" and "Riptide." The packaging seen here is not their final packaging, though their included models apparently are. The final packaging can now be seen on the official site.
  • Known trainer figures at this point in time include Red and Brendan, from their video game incarnations.
  • While a Misty model had been shown in the past, it was not on display at Supanova, and is not known to be a part of any starter set at this point in time.
  • Known Pokémon figures include Charizard, Feraligatr, Meowth, Murkrow, Mudkip, Pikachu, Torchic and Treecko.
  • Booster packs consist of two figures without bases.
  • In addition to the booster pack design displayed here, there will also be designs with Pikachu, Charizard and Groudon. These designs can now be seen on the official site.
  • About 40 Pokémon figures will be in the first set, entitled "Next Quest," along with an unknown number of trainers.

Figures disassembled
  • The figures are produced by Kaiyodo Co., a Japanese company well-known for its trading arts and other figures, having produced models for Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop and many other famous anime and manga series.
  • Figures disassemble easily for the transfer of bases. It is unknown as yet if this is meant to allow for some sort of evolution mechanic in the game.
