Japanese boxart of Pokémon XD

The boxart and several promotions associated with the Japanese release of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, the new Pokémon game for Nintendo GameCube, were revealed this week on Pokémon Center Online, the official Japanese retail website of the franchise.

Pre-orders for the game will begin this Saturday, June 18, and will end on July 20. The game will go on sale in Japan August 4 and will retail for 5,800 yen.

Unlike its predecessor, Pokémon Colosseum, Pokémon XD will not reward pre-orderers with a bonus disc. Instead, people pre-ordering the game will receive a special "triple changing sticker" which features the game's protagonist, Dark Lugia, and Eevee and its five possible evolutions. It appears that this sticker changes its image when turned.

Also revealed was a special Pokémon XD GameCube combo set containing the Pokémon XD game, a silver GameCube, and a Memory Card 59. Those who pre-order this set will receive two Pokémon XD Memory Card 59 labels in addition to the triple changing sticker given out with the standard game pre-order. This set will be released on the same day as the standard game, August 4, and will retail for 16,800 yen.
