Celebi in Pokémon GO

From August 20, Celebi will be available in Pokémon GO by completing a new set of Special Research tasks which will be released on the same day. Celebi will be available to catch once the player has completed several groups of tasks to get XP, receive items and catch specific Pokémon as part of this Special Research. The Special Research for Celebi can be started once the player has completed the third group of tasks related to the Special Research for Mew and the player can continue the Special Research for both Mythical Pokémon at the same time. People who have attended the Pokémon GO Fest and completed the exclusive Special Research for Celebi at that event will receive some Celebi candy for completing these new Special Research tasks.

Niantic have also announced that once the Special Research for Celebi is released then Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region will appear more frequently and more Field Research tasks relating to Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region will be available around this time. New clothes will also be avialble in the Style Shop including Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver Trainer avatar items which will be unlocked in the shop according to the player's Johto medal progress and there will also be a free Celebi T-shirt.
