Detective Pikachu 3DS

Justice Smith, most famous for the Netflix series The Get Down, has been confirmed as the lead role of Detective Pikachu.

Detective Pikachu is going to be directed by Rob Letterman. The script is by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch. Moreover, it will be created by Legendary and distributed by Universal Pictures. It will be released outside of Japan according to Deadline.

Detective Pikachu or Great Detective Pikachu ~Birth of a New Duo~ is a Pokémon spin-off game for the 3DS. Tim Goodman comes to Rhyme City and meets a bossy, infatuated, talking coffee-loving Pikachu.

Justice Smith, who starred on Netflix’s musical drama The Get Down, has been set as the lead of Legendary’s live-action Pokemon movie Detective Pikachu.

The project, originally tipped by Deadline in summer 2016 amid the heat of the Pokemon Go craze, is being directed by Rob Letterman from a script by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch. No plot details yet. Universal Pictures, Legendary’s distribution partner, will release the live-action film outside Japan, where Toho has rights.

Smith’s film credits include Paper Towns and the upcoming Jurassic World sequel. Variety broke Smith’s casting first today.
