The Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console versions of the Generation I core series games will be able to send Pokémon to Pokémon Bank. From Pokémon Bank, they can then be transferred to the newly announced games Pokémon Sun and Moon.

The functionality to do so is not currently in Pokémon Bank, and will be added in a future software update.

Pokémon cannot be moved directly from Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow to Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby, or Alpha Sapphire, via Pokémon Bank.

While the Generation I and II games could trade with each other, Pokémon from these games could never previously be sent to Generation III or higher games. This makes it possible for the first time, and will enable new move combinations that have never been possible before.
