A new trailer for Pokémon Sun and Moon has revealed several new Pokémon and a new regional variant, as well as a new organization and other details.

Jangmo-o is a new Dragon-type Pokémon. It can have either Bulletproof or Soundproof as its Ability.

Type: Null is a new Normal-type Pokémon. It is a Synthetic Pokémon that was constructed to synthesize the strengths of various Pokémon, making it adaptable enough to complete a mission that requires a Pokémon as strong as the Pokémon of mythology. The mask fitted to this Pokémon's head is a piece of equipment designed to control its latent powers, but the mask's weight also hinders Type: Null's agility. It is the partner Pokémon of Team Skull's Gladion. It has the Ability Battle Armor.

Alolan Raticate is a Dark/Normal Pokémon. It can have either Gluttony or Hustle as its Ability. This regional variant lives in urban areas, leading to a higher-calorie diet than that of Raticate elsewhere, giving them tough bodies but also making them a lot fatter. They stockpile huge amounts of food in their nests and prefer fresh fruit and high-class ingredients. Alolan Raticate is the Totem Pokémon of the trial that takes place in Verdant Cavern on Melemele Island in Pokémon Moon; in Pokémon Sun, the Totem Pokémon is Gumshoos.

Additionally, a previously unseen Pokémon that looks similar to Cutiefly was shown in a Japanese live action trailer.

The Aether Foundation is a research organization that works in the Alola region. Residing on Aether Paradise, the artificial island that they created, their goal is to care for and provide shelter to Pokémon that have been hurt.

Their members include:

  • Lusamine, the president of the Aether Foundation.
  • Faba, the Aether Foundation's second-in-command and Aether Foundation branch chief, a position he's very proud of. He can be identified by his signature green sunglasses.
  • Wicke, the assistant branch chief of Aether Paradise. She has a very caring personality and supports Faba. She is loved by all of the Aether Foundation's employees.

The employees of the Aether Foundation have various uniforms depending on which division they belong to.

Gladion is a young man who acts as an enforcer for Team Skull. He places a high value on being strong in Pokémon battles. His partner Pokémon is Type: Null.

Ultra Beasts are creatures that are rumored to possess mighty powers and pose a threat to humans and Pokémon. There are said to be multiple Ultra Beasts in existence. The Aether Foundation is conducting research on these Ultra Beasts, referring to each of them by a code name.

UB-01 is an Ultra Beast that has a body composed of a glass-like substance. It constantly changes shape, and its movements resemble that of a young girl. Whilst evidence of something like a survival instinct can be observed in UB-01, no one knows whether it has a will of its own or any emotions at all.

Dexio and Sina appear in the Alola region in Pokémon Sun and Moon. These two characters originally appeared in Pokémon X and Y as Professor Sycamore's assistants. They give the player a Zygarde Cube and ask them to collect Zygarde Cores and Zygarde Cells, which can be found in various locations all throughout Alola as objects giving off light. These are Zygarde Cores and Zygarde Cells. If you collect enough, the path to finding Zygarde will supposedly become clearer.

A new feature called the Poké Finder allows players to take pictures of the Pokémon they find using the Rotom Pokédex. When used in certain spots scattered throughout the Alola region, the player can snap pictures of Pokémon. Pictures taken will be evaluated; as the player takes better pictures, more features—like the ability to zoom—become available.

A major difference between Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon has been revealed. The in-game time of Pokémon Sun matches the Nintendo 3DS clock, whereas the time of Pokémon Moon is offset by 12 hours. Players will encounter different Pokémon on the same route depending on whether it is day or night, which means players will have different experiences according to their chosen version of the game.

This is in addition to the regular game-exclusive Pokémon between the games. Some Totem Pokémon which appear in the trials throughout the game will also be different between the versions.

Events that occur in the games will also feature different natural phenomena between the games.
