A new menu update for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems has been released. The official statement on the support website describes version 9.5.0-23U by saying that "Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience."

Despite this statement, which is used often by Nintendo and usually leads users to believe that the update fixed nothing worth mentioning, the update actually fixes several bugs that can be exploited by use of the system's built-in web browser and QR code scanner.

Some of these exploits were used specifically in Pokémon games. For Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, users could generate or find online QR codes and scan them while the game was suspended, and upon re-entering the game have illegitimately obtained Pokémon. Another exploit in the recently released Pokémon Shuffle would make everything in the shop cost zero jewels by going to a specific link in the web browser while the game was suspended.

Some of these exploits never worked on the New Nintendo 3DS and its corresponding XL model from their release due to slightly differing firmware from the original Nintendo 3DS, but due to this menu update they will not work on any system in the Nintendo 3DS family anymore.
