The 3DS (not final design)

A recent Nintendo conference has revealed new information about the upcoming Nintendo 3DS release. The latest portable console by Nintendo will be released in Japan in 2011, with an American and European release to follow in March. This is around the same time that Pokémon Black and White will make their English-language debut.

The price for the console has also been announced. In Japan, the 3DS will retail at ¥25,000. This is approximately US$300. The conference also mentioned many upcoming games for the 3DS, but no new Pokémon titles were mentioned.

The 3DS will include DSiWare and its own downloadable software, along with a Virtual Console to contain Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.

The successor to the Nintendo DSi, the 3DS is able to produce 3D effects without the need for special glasses. What this means for future Pokémon games remains uncertain, but fans expect any later titles in the fifth generation to make full use of these effects.

Will the eventual successors to Black and White be in 3D?
