Today, Nintendo has revealed an introductory video for their next console, the Nintendo Switch. Originally codenamed "NX", the Switch enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever, and whomever they choose. Handheld mobility is added to the power of a home gaming system.

In home console mode, the Switch rests on a dock that connects the system to a TV and allows players to join in with family and friends in the comfort of their living room. Simply lifting the Switch from the dock, it instantly transitions to portable mode, and the same gaming experience enjoyed at home travels with the player. The system's portability is enhanced by its bright HD display, and brings full home gaming system experience wherever the player goes.

The system comes with two removable Joy-Con controllers from either side. While one player uses a Joy-Con controller in each hand, two players can each take one. Optionally, multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous players for a variety of gameplay options. They easily click back into place, or can be slipped into a grip accessory for the Joy-Con, mirroring a more-traditional controller. Or the player can prefer to select an optional Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con. It's possible for numerous players to bring their Switch systems together for local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like. It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.
-- Reggie Fills-Amie, President and CEO, Nintendo of America

Many developers can design games for the Switch, supporting a variety of game styles, which can give gamers the freedom to choose an experience that suits them better.

The Switch is set to launch on March 2017.
