Since then, images have surfaced online of the limited edition Pikachu themed Nintendo 3DS XL console in North American packaging, with multiple sources stating that it will be released on March 24, 2013. This follows from a brief appearance of the console in a recent advertisement for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, which is being released in North America on the same day.
The limited edition console was previously released in Japan last August as Pokémon Center store exclusive, where it quickly sold out. It was then released in Europe as a Limited Edition in December 2012.
