Pokémon 20th Anniversary logo

The Pokémon Company International has announced a range of celebrations for the Pokémon 20th Anniversary. These parallel the scale of celebrations seen for the Pokémon 10th Anniversary.

Fans are encouraged to use the hashtag #Pokemon20 to share their experiences with Pokémon. It is hinted that Pokémon Company International's favorite submissions will get some kind of prize. In the United States, new ad for Pokémon will air during Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, February 7, which will also promote this hashtag.

The official website also includes an interactive timeline, detailing the important Pokémon events in each year of the franchise's existence. The timeline can be found here.

Due to the amount of content announced, there are several Bulbanews articles on these announcements. A full list are included under the "See also" section.

Mythical Pokémon distributions

Mythical Pokémon will be distributed throughout 2016 via GameStop in the US and the Nintendo Network. Other distribution methods are unknown at this time.

See this Bulbanews article for more details.

Coverplates and bundles

New Pokémon-themed bundles and cover plates have been announced for the United States, Europe, and Australia.

See this Bulbanews article for more details.

Pokémon Day

The Pokémon Company International has declared Feb 27, 2016 to be Pokémon Day, in celebration of the original Pokémon games Pokémon Red and Green being released in Japan on that day 20 years prior. (This day is unrelated to past events of the same name in Europe and Singapore.)

On Pokémon Day, Toys "R" Us stores in the United States will have special foil Pikachu and Magikarp TCG cards from the new Generations set, a Pokémon activity book, and a poster with the original 151 Pokémon from Generation I. They will be available until supplies last.

Pokémon Photo Booth

A new app titled "Pokémon Photo Booth" will be available for free download on iPhone and Android later this year.

Anime

Starting January 19, 12 Pokémon movies will be available for digital download on iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon. Additionally, the iBooks A Pokémon Super Story! Hoopa and the Clash of Ages and A Pokémon Super Story! Pokémon: The First Movie! will be available on iTunes early this year.

See this Bulbanews article for more details.

Merchandise

PokemonCenter.com will be selling special merchandise to celebrate the Pokémon 20th Anniversary.

The merchandise that will be available on PokemonCenter.com includes:

  • The Pokémon 20th Anniversary collection of TCG accessories: a deck box, playmat, card sleeves, and 3-ring binder, all displaying the colorful Pokémon 20th logo in a Pokémon Center exclusive design (soon)
  • A Pokémon 20th Anniversary Pikachu pin that is over 2 inches wide, and a Pokémon 20th Anniversary lanyard (soon)
  • A T-shirt in both kids' and adults' sizes with a colorful Pokémon 20th Anniversary logo (early 2016)
  • A raglan baseball shirt with the Pokémon 20th Anniversary logo (spring 2016)
  • A baseball cap in the New Era 9Fifty style with the Pokémon 20th Anniversary logo (summer 2016)
  • A white 12-oz mug with a red interior and the Pokémon 20th Anniversary logo (summer 2016)

In Europe, numerous limited-edition toys, figurines and plush items from TOMY will be available at participating retail locations.

Nendoroid

Pokémon Trainer Red: Champion Ver.

The Nendoroid "Pokémon Trainer Red: Champion Ver." will be released exclusively on PokemonCenter.com. This special limited-edition Nendoroid figure comes with a Great Ball, an Ultra Ball, and 3 Pokémon figures: Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise. It will be available near the end of February.

Nendoroid is a series of figures produced by Good Smile Company. They typically feature anime or manga characters, and are mostly distributed in Japan. They are designed to be about 10 cm tall with a large head and small body to look cute. They have interchangeable and movable body parts and faces to allow a variety of expressions and poses.

The Red Nendoroid figure was released in Japan in September 2014, and in North America (via the online Pokémon Center store) in December 2014. This special edition has not previously been released. The standard edition comes a Poké Ball and a Master Ball, and Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle figures.
