A Pokémon Art Academy competition will be held from Feb. 18 to March 29, 2015. The six winners of this competition will have their artwork made into a Pokémon Trading Card Game card.

There are two separate instances of the competition being run: one for people in North America, and one for people in Europe and Oceania. The competition for North America is open to residents of the United States (50 states and Washington D.C.), Canada, and Mexico. The competition for Europe and Oceania is open to residents of Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, and Russia (Italy is specifically excluded).

Each of the six winners of each competition will receive 100 copies of the card with their artwork; these cards are purely promotional, and will not be otherwise available nor will they be legal in Play! Pokémon events. These cards will be sent out in Northern Hemisphere autumn 2015.

Details

The competition has two categories: "Dress-Up Pikachu" and "Your Favorite Pokémon". In Dress-Up Pikachu, entrants design and draw their own costume for Pikachu, like the costumes of Cosplay Pikachu. In "Your Favorite Pokémon", entrants draw a picture of any Pokémon. Each category can only be entered once; if multiple entries are made, only the first entry will be recognized.

Artwork entered into the competition is licensed to The Pokémon Company International to use and re-license as they wish.

To enter, players must create and save an image in Pokémon Art Academy using Free Paint mode, select the “Share” option from Pokémon Art Academy’s main menu and connect to Miiverse, select the “Post to Competition” option and agree to the Official Rules, highlight the category the drawing is being entered in then choose “Select Competition”, slide over the image and select it and then choose “Share Selected”, enter a title to accompany the artwork and then select “Post”. The image will be posted to Miiverse and entered into the competition.

People associated with the contest or the companies running it are ineligible. In the European and Oceanian competition, entrants must be aged 3 years or older, and entrants under the age of 18 require the permission of a parent or guardian to enter.

Text cannot be included in either artwork. The artwork must comply with the Miiverse Code of Conduct. The entrant must have created the artwork themself. The North American competition requires that the artwork be suitable for general audiences (such that it doesn't contain material that is offensive, obscene or illegal, or that violates the rights of others. The North American competition also specifies that the artwork must not contain any third-party materials.

The preliminary judging panel will select 50 drawings from each category according to the skill, artistic expression, originality and creativity demonstrated. From those 50 drawings, the final judging panel will select three winners per category according to the same criteria.

The final judging panel comprises some of the creators of the Pokémon universe; the North American competition specifies that they will be selected by The Pokémon Company, whereas the European and Oceanian competition specifies that they will be Trading Card illustrators. For the European and Oceanian competition, full names of members of the judging panel and the Trading Card illustrators judging the contest are available by written request to The Pokémon Company International received within 3 months of the closing date of the contest.

Winners will be announced in April or May 2015 (sources contradict each other), with winners being notified by April 30. When notified, the winners of the European and Oceanian competition will be required to fill out a participation form and send The Pokémon Company International a high resolution version of their artwork. When notified, the winners of the North American competition will be required to follow the instructions included in the email. In both competitions, if the selected entrant fails to do so within seven days, another winner may be selected.

After verification, each winner of the North American competition will be publicly announced (using such winner's Nintendo Network ID, Mii character, and country of residence) on Pokémon.com, artacademy.nintendo.com/pokemon/, and through other channels.

Nintendo Network ID, Mii, Mii nickname and country of residence of the winners of the European and Oceanian competition may be published on Miiverse, the Pokémon website and other websites promoting or selling the Pokémon products, YouTube, or social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter. The winners' names and country of residence will be available on written request to The Pokémon Company International received within 3 months of the closing date of the contest.

Each of the six winners of each competition will receive 100 copies of the card with their artwork; these cards are purely promotional, and will not be otherwise available nor will they be legal in Play! Pokémon events. These cards will be sent out in Northern Hemisphere autumn 2015. The North American competition values this prize at $40.

The North American competition is subject to the laws of the State of Washington in the United States, although residents of Quebec should submit litigations to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux in some circumstances. The European and Oceanian competition is subject to the laws of England and Wales.
