During the time leading up to the release of Nintendo's Wii U console, one of the features that was talked about but until today remained unused, was the Near Field Technology reader/writer ("NFC" for short) on the GamePad. Recently, Nintendo EAD General Manager Shigeru Miyamoto commented that the company would be talking more about its use of this technology in the near future and now we have our first insight into how it will be used.

This month's CoroCoro Magazine revealed that the first Wii U game to use the technology made famous by recent successes like the Skylanders franchise and the upcoming Disney Infinity game, will be the Wii U eShop exclusive Pokémon Scramble U. The game will be made available to download on April 24th 2013 for 1800yen, with 6 standard figures and 1 special figure being available for purchase at Pokémon Center stores for 200yen each. Like with the Skylanders figures, the Pokémon Scramble U will figures will contain a chip that means a Pokémon's information (such as their stats) will be stored on the figure itself as opposed to the game.
