While naysayers have repeatedly claimed that the fandom for Pokémon both off and online is shrinking, an editorial posted by Yahoo! Buzz this week debunks that claim, stating that the game has never strayed far from its top 500 list.

According to the editorial, searches on Pokémon and Pokémon related subjects have spiked recently, following the release of Pokémon Emerald in the United States, and with the upcoming release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl in Japan later this year. Spikes have also been noticed for Pokémon-related cards, cheats, games, and even for the names of certain Pokémon fansites.
