Pokemon.com has announced that there will be a series Pokémon video game tournaments, leading up to a video game world championship to be held in August in San Diego, CA alongside the Pokémon TCG World Championship. Few details were given, but the article states that the battles will be 2-on-2 with a maximum level of 50 for each Pokémon, and that participants will need a copy of Pokémon Platinum to participate. The article states that in the US there will be regional qualifiers, followed by a national tournament in St. Louis, MO at the site of the US Pokémon TCG National Championships. Though not expressly stated in the article, the world championship is presumed to include players from Japan, who have their own series of qualifying events.
