In today's entry in the official blog of Super Smash Bros. Brawl President Masahiko Sakurai revealed a new playable character - the first Pokémon character to be confirmed since Pikachu appeared in the first trailer. A Pokémon Trainer, with the design of Red, will battle with Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard.

When the battle begins, the trainer will run to the background and release Squirtle. The down special move will replace Squirtle for Ivysaur, then Ivysaur for Charizard, before returning to Squirtle. They all share the same damage meter but have a seperate stamina statistic. This means that balancing the Pokémon switching will be key to successfully using this character.
