The official Pokémon Trading Card Game website promoting the Trainer Challenge Beta.

For years, official digital representations of the Pokémon Trading Card Game had gone dormant. It's been over a decade since TCG fans had enjoyed their card-battling experiences with computer and video game versions of the Pokémon TCG via Pokémon Play It! or the Game Boy Color game. Starting in April, trading card fans young and old will finally get the chance to play the trading card game without the actual cards once again with the Pokémon Trainer Challenge.

When the beta for the Trainer Challenge launches in April 2011, fans with a Pokémon Trainer Club account on Pokémon.com will be able to go to the official TCG website to play an online version of the TCG with their own cartoonish-looking avatars against fourteen AI players on a virtual playing mat. There will be three pre-constructed decks available for use at launch. According to the official TCG website, fans will also be able to win new cards for use in the online game.

Also, starting on April 6, there will be more pre-constructed decks available for purchase from the Black and White expansion pack, which will include unlock codes that fans can enter in to get the online versions of the new cards.

It is currently unknown if players will get the chance to play against other human players through the game.
