The Texas-based group The Speed Gamers will begin their second marathon playthrough of the Pokémon series, utilizing all Generation III and Generation IV main series games released, including the currently Japanese-only Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, to attempt to capture all 493 Pokémon currently known in 72 hours.

In late 2008, the group began their first Pokémon marathon, attempting to capture the 491 Pokémon that were at the time officially revealed to English gamers and available without cheating within 72 hours. Despite this, technical issues that arose during the last marathon caused them to only be able to obtain 429 of the Pokémon.

Donations made to The Speed Gamers will go to the charity Ally's House, which assists families struggling to cope with a child who has cancer. Well-known Let's Player and YouTuber Chuggaaconroy has flown out to Texas to team up with the group for this venture; he will be playing Pokémon FireRed to contribute toward the goal. Chuggaaconroy is well-known for his previous Let's Plays, including that of FireRed, in which he named his starter Pokémon, a Bulbasaur, after our very own wiki.

The marathon begins at 0:00 GMT on December 19, 2009, and will go until 23:59 GMT on December 21; for ease of determining the GMT time, the clock present at the top of all Bulbawiki pages runs according to this time zone in 24-hour style.
