The Treehouse Live at E3 presentation revealed three new Pokémon - {{p|Pikipek}}, {{p|Yungoos}}, and {{p|Grubbin}}. Pikipek is a {{Type|Normal}}/{{Type|Flying}} Pokémon which has the Abilities {{a|Keen Eye}} and {{a|Skill Link}}. It is the Woodpecker Pokémon, is #10 in the Pokédex and is able to learn the move {{m|Peck}}. This bird Pokémon can strike 16 times a second with its beak, which is strong enough to break through stone. They drill holes to store food and will also store objects that glitter in these holes as well. It has a height of 1'00", a weight of 2.6 lbs and has two as of yet unrevealed evolutions. Its Japanese name is 「ツツケラ』 Tsutsukera.

Yungoos is a {{Type|Normal}} Pokémon and is the Loitering Pokémon. It has a height of 2'04", weight of 13.2 lbs and has one as of yet unrevealed evolution. It has the Abilities {{a|Stakeout}} and {{a|Strong Jaw}}. Stakeout allows Yungoos to deal double damage to Pokémon that switch in mid-battle. It eats a lot of food since it is never satisfied and its fangs are so strong that it can crush and eat very hard objects. Furthermore it stalks prey until it gets tired and then falls asleep on the route that it was stalking its prey. It was originally not a native of the {{bp|Alola Region}}. It's Japanese name is 「ヤングース』 Yangūsu. 

Grubbin is a {{Type|Bug}} Pokémon. It is considered the Larva Pokémon. It has a height of 1'04" and a weight of 9.7 lbs. It's currently unknown if Grubbin can evolve. Its Ability is {{a|Swarm}} and is able to learn the move {{m|String Shot}}. It uses its jaw to burrow through the ground and is found by power plants due to its love of electricity. Its Japanese name is 「アゴジムシ』 Agojimushi.

The starter Pokémon Popplio can learn the moves {{m|Disarming Voice}}. It also has the moves {{m|Tackle}}, {{m|Growl}}, and {{m|Water Gun}} at the beginning of the journey. {{p|Litten}} is shown to be able to use the move {{m|Scratch}}, along with {{m|Ember}}. {{p|Rowlet}} is shown with the moves {{m|Growl}}, {{m|Tackle}}, and {{m|Leafage}}. {{p|Magearna}}'s Ability {{a|Soul-Heart}} raises its Special Attack stat by one stage when another Pokémon faints. It will be obtainable by scanning a particular QR code in {{bp|Pokémon Sun and Moon}}. The Legendary Pokémon {{p|Lunala}}'s Full Moon phase is activated when it uses its signature move {{m|Moongeist Beam}}. Solgaleo's Radiant Sun phase is activated when it uses its signature move {{m|Sunsteel Strike}}. 

In the beginning of the game, the neighboring town has a festival. During battle, you are able to see how much a stat is altered on a Pokémon after a move that alters stats is used.  When Pokémon are registered in the Pokédex, there are Poké Ball icons that indicate how many Pokémon are in the evolution chain. 

Each of the islands of the Alola Region have a guardian Pokémon. The island where the player starts is called Melemele and the name of Melemele's guardian is Tapu Koko. In the gameplay dialogue, it is mentioned that the player has met Tapu Koko before in the game. The player battles {{bp|Hau}} for at the festival. During this battle, Hau uses {{p|Pichu}} and the {{bp|Starter Pokémon}} that is weak to the Starter Pokémon that was chosen by the player. Attacking moves display whether they are Not Very Effective or Super Effective against the Pokémon the player is battling. This information is displayed in battles that occur after you've faced the Pokémon at least once. It is mentioned that along with being able to choose skin color, players can also customize their clothing in the game.  

The Battle Royal is a new battle mode and is held in the Battle Royal Dome. In this battle mode, four players each battle with three Pokémon and send out one at a time. After the battle, each trainer is ranked based on how many Pokémon they each knocked out, and Pokémon they have remaining.
