Charizard and Greninja

In a video released alongside the Super Smash Bros. Direct, the official site of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, as well as its YouTube channel, has revealed that Charizard will return as a standalone veteran fighter, being previously playable in the Brawl entry of the series as part of Pokémon Trainer roster, and Generation VI Pokémon, Greninja, to be a playable character as well.

The footage has also revealed several Pokémon appearing in Poké Balls, including several recurring Pokémon such as Meowth, Staryu, and Electrode (who can now be picked up and thrown), and newcomers such as Fennekin. A new item, the Master Ball, will hold rare and legendary Pokémon, including Palkia (revealed previously), Resolute Forme Keldeo, Aria Forme Meloetta, and Arceus.

Also revealed in the video was Lucario's ability to Mega-Evolve, presumably via a new Final Smash. While Mega-Evolved, Lucario's aura attacks will always do maximum damage. Charizard was also revealed to Mega-Evolve into its Mega Charizard X form, which could be its Final Smash. The last few seconds of the video showed Greninja using a mysterious special move, which could be its Final Smash.

No other details are known at this time.
