This is the first time in the history of {{bp|Play! Pokémon|Pokémon Organized Play}} that the United Kingdom has held Regional Championships, which is possibly due to the country's smaller size in comparison to other countries that regularly hold Regionals, such as the United States.
Although these tournaments will be a regular part of the VGC circuit this year, attendance to the Regional Championships is not required in order to attend the United Kingdom National Championships, which are being held from May 30 to May 31 in Manchester at EventCity, whereas attendance at a Regionals tournament is a requirement for Nationals in North America.
