The official Play! Pokémon rules and formats for the 2015-2016 season VGC tournaments have been revealed by the official site.

The standard battle format style will be Double Battles using Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Players can use Pokémon from the National Pokédex except Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Diancie and Hoopa. Teams may have no more than of two of the following Pokémon: Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde. Every Pokémon in a party must have a blue pentagon in the Pokémon summary screen to show that they were obtained in Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire. Pokémon can hold items that have been officially released via Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, the Pokémon Global Link or an official event or promotion except the Soul Dew. Every Pokémon must hold a different item. Pokémon that are above Level 50 will be auto-leveled down to 50 for the duration of battle.
