From March 22 to 29, Water-type Pokémon are more common in Pokémon GO. The official announcement specifically mentions Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile, and Lapras as being more common.

Additionally, since the start of this event, some players have encountered Shiny Magikarp in Pokémon GO. This is the first time Shiny Pokémon have been available in Pokémon GO, and no other Pokémon have been discovered to be Shiny in the game, although Gyarados retain the coloration upon evolution. The chance of encountering a Shiny Magikarp is not currently known.
