The Wii has sold over 86.01 million units since 2006

After a month of rumours and speculation across the internet, Nintendo have confirmed that the highly anticipated successor to their best-selling Wii console will be unveiled at this year's E3 Convention, held between June 7-9 in Los Angeles. A playable model of the new system will also be at the event.

Although the press release confirms a 2012 release, due to the sales of this new system not being included in the recently published financial forecasts of this fiscal year, it may be speculated that this console will not be released before April 2012; although this has yet to be confirmed.

Nintendo's current console, the Wii, has sold more than 86.01 million units since its worldwide launch in 2006.
