Pokémon.com has announced ruling changes for the English card game that will be applying Nov. 8, 2013. These changes are the same that were revealed for the Japanese card game late September. Additionally, in order to help explain these rulings, {{TCG ID|XY|Professor Sycamore|122}} was announced for the XY expansion. Professor Sycamore is an Uncommon {{TCG|Supporter card}} numbered 122/146 with the same effect as Professor Juniper. {{TCG|XY}} will release Feb. 5, 2014. 

===First turn===
Players now flip a coin before drawing their opening hands. The winner of the coin flip now decides who goes first. Also, whoever goes first now can’t attack on his or her first turn. 

===Pokémon Catcher errata===
The {{TCG|Item card}}, {{TCG|Pokémon Catcher}}, will be receiving an errata. The card's effect will now be dependent on a coin flip. Pokémon Catcher is now functionally identical to {{TCG|Pokémon Reversal}}. The new effect is as follows.

===Professor Juniper and Professor Sycamore===

These two {{TCG|supporter card}}s, {{TCG|Professor Juniper}} and {{TCG|Professor Sycamore}}, are given a special rule due to their effects. The newly revealed Professor Sycamore Supporter card has the same effect as Professor Juniper. Because of this, players may run '''''either''''' Professor Juniper '''''or''''' Professor Sycamore in their deck. They may still run up to 4 of the card they choose.
