This month's CoroCoro Magazine revealed that the first Wii U game to use the Wii U GamePad's near field communication reader/writer ("NFC" for short) will be the Wii U eShop exclusive Pokémon Scramble U. The game will be made available to download on April 24, 2013 for ¥1800, with 6 standard figures and 1 special figure being available for purchase at Pokémon Center stores for ¥200 each. Like with the Skylanders figures, the Pokémon Scramble U will figures will contain a chip that means a Pokémon's information (such as their stats) will be stored on the figure itself as opposed to the game.
The Wii U's near field communication was one of the features that was talked during the time leading up to the release, but until now remained unused. This technology was made famous by recent successes like the Skylanders franchise and the upcoming Disney Infinity game. Recently, Nintendo EAD General Manager Shigeru Miyamoto commented that the company would be talking more about its use of this technology in the near future and now we have our first insight into how it will be used.
