Former VA Tomoko Kawakami, who voiced such characters as Violet, Marian, and the Diamond and Pearl Pokédex until 2008, has unfortunately passed away, at the age of 40.  
Former Japanese voice actor Tomoko Kawakami has passed away after losing her battle with ovarian cancer. She was 40.


On August 19th, 2008, she underwent surgery after admitting herself to a hospital with an unknown illness. As a result she was given an 20 month sick leave. Satsuki Yukino served as her understudy during that time. She died from ovarian cancer on Thursday.
Kawakami worked on the Pokémon anime during the first two years of the {{series|Diamond & Pearl}}, voicing a range of characters including both humans and Pokémon. One of her most famous roles on this series was that of {{bp|Dawn's Buneary}}, but she also voiced the Diamond and Pearl Pokédex. She left the show on 19 August, 2008, having admitted herself to hospital with an unknown illness. During her 20-month sick leave, {{bp|Satsuki Yukino}} took over her roles.


Other anime characters that she voiced ranged from Rika Sasaki in Cardcaptors Sakura, to Soifon in Bleach, to Amanda in One Piece. She also voiced Dawn's Buneary.
Kawakami has voiced many other characters in other anime series including the titular roles in ''{{wp|Revolutionary Girl Utena}}'' and ''{{wp|Hikaru no Go}}''. She also played characters in Japanese dubs of American TV shows, and in video games.
