The Pearl boxart

A pair of Japanese Web sites provided a slew of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl information this week, including the Japanese release date, boxart and the first known video of the games.

Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS video maker am3 posted the Japanese boxart and release date of the games, Sept. 28. The image of the boxart, while small in size, gave more insight as to the forms of the two legendary Pokémon featured on the cover of the eighth Pokémon Wonderland magazine, set for release next week. Shortly after their placement on the site, am3 removed the boxart and date.

Additionally, Yahoo! Japan Kids provided what may be the first publicly-available in-game video. The video features the female protagonist walking through Masago Town, then moving south to Route 219. The video features a remixed version of the main Pokémon theme. The protagonist moves through a world with more three-dimensional depth than in previous games.

Next week will bring more information, with the release of Pokémon Wonderland and the ninth movie, Pokémon Ranger and the Prince of the Sea: Manaphy.

Sept. 28, the release date for Diamond and Pearl, will be a Thursday, the same day the Pokémon anime airs on TV Tokyo. It is expected that Satoshi will begin his adventures in Shin'ō on that date, leaving 10 episodes left in the Battle Frontier saga.
