The English dub of the anime mini-series Pokémon Origins was released on the iTunes distribution platform on May 28, 2014. Each episode is purchasable individually and/or bundled in a four-episode collection, with options including standard-definition (SD) and high-definition (HD) presentations. The standard-definition edition is priced at $1.99 per episode and $7.96 as a collection, while the high-definition edition costs $2.99 per episode and $11.96 as a collection.
The mini-series, based off of the events of Pokémon Red and Blue and unrelated to the main Pokémon anime, chronicles Red's journey as a Pokémon Trainer throughout the Kanto region. During his adventure, Red sets off to complete his Pokédex by encountering many species of Pokémon on his travels, in addition to battling members of the Pokémon League and squaring off with Team Rocket. Pokémon Origins was first broadcast in Japan on October 2, 2013, later receiving English distribution to platforms such as Pokémon TV and Hulu beginning in November 2013.
The iTunes release marks the first time that Pokémon Origins is available for home-media purchase outside of Japanese and Australian territories, as a DVD/Blu-ray release in North American territories has yet to be announced.
