The Pokémon Card Game Summer Battle tournament will be held this year at Pokémon Centers and five non-Pokémon Center locations. At the Pokémon Centers there will be two types of battle; "Urgent Orders! Poké-Mission Battle" and "Try the World's best deck against the staff". At non-Center locations there will be two types of battle as well: "Urgent Orders" and standard deck battle. All participants in the Summer Battle tournament will receive a special sticker. Also, if a player shows up at the event with the Mewtwo VS Genesect theme deck, that player will receive an original EX Battle Boost Mini Clear File.
The schedule for the tournaments at the Pokémon Center are different than the non-Pokémon Center tournaments. The first is Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pokémon Center in Sapporo. Sept. 1 has several Pokémon Centers running the event - from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Tokyo, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Fukuoka, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Yokohama as well. Another one is on Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Pokémon Center in Touhoku. Another one is on Sept. 8 from 10:30 am. to 5 p.m in the Pokémon Center in Osaka. There is also one on Sept. 10 from 10:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pokémon Center in Nagoya.
As part of the Summer Battle tournament, players will have the chance to experience the deck that won it all at the Vancouver World Championships. This is part of the "Try the World's Best Deck" challenge where a player can challenge Pokémon Center Staff and use the the same deck the World Champion used.
The "Urgent Orders!" tournament will feature a Half Deck League and Standard Deck league. The Half deck will use 30 cards and the standard 60. The amount of prize cards is one for every 10 cards in a deck. Battles are decided by a single match. If a player wins more than one battle in a row, they get a Pokémon Card Game Player's Certificate. There are two types of Missions enforced during the battles, "Ordinary Missions", which a player must try and complete during the tournament, and "Urgent Missions", which are announced during battles. Urgent Missions only last for a limited time, and have a maximum limit of people who can complete them before the mission is ended. If a player clears the mission, they get a Mission Clear Prize (a 10-card Promotion Card Pack). An example of a mission is "Take advantage of your opponent's Pokémon's weakness!", however there will also be many other ordinary missions and urgent missions, and all missions will vary by location. While urgent missions have time limits, there is no time limit for any battle. If a player wins a "Pokémon Card Game Player's Certificate", they can take it to a "Gym Challenge" tournament to receive a special gift, which a player can only receive by attending.
The Non-Pokémon Center locations and times are Itoyokado Ario in Sapporo on Aug. 3. Apita in Shizouka on Aug. 4. Aeon Mall in Moriokaminami on Aug. 11. Emiful in Masaki on Aug. 16. Aeon Mall in Kurashiki on Aug. 17. Mission battles will last from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and standard battles lasting from 1 to 5 p.m.
The standard deck battle involves basic battle rules using normal 60-card decks. Battles will take place using 60-card decks and six prize cards and will be divided into two stages. The Challenge Stage where if a player wins three battles in a row moves that player on to the Premiere stage. The Premiere Stage will rank players based on how many consecutive wins they have gained in the Premiere Stage. Top player rankings will be decided at each day's event at 16:30, and if two players have the same amount of consecutive wins, the order will be decided by a match of rock-paper-scissors. There is no time limit for a single battle, and changing a player's deck or the cards in it are not allowed any time during the tournament. Victors (those who have achieved more than two wins in the Challenge Stage) will receive a Promotion Pack containing 10 cards, and the top five players will receive two card sleeves.
