Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter revealed

The second Pokémon Direct has revealed a new feature called Pokémon Bank, a new feature downloadable only on Nintendo 3DS-family devices. This software will allow the user to deposit their Pokémon directly onto a special Cloud server. Pokémon Bank will hold up to 3000 Pokémon and can be accessed at any time as long the user is connected to the internet.
Pokémon Bank is tied to the 3DS system rather than a specific game, which hints at allowing a person an easier time of transferring Pokémon from one version to the other. In addition, Pokémon Bank has a variety of search functions.
Pokémon Bank is a paid service, with an annual fee for usage; however, the amount of this fee has not yet been announced. Nintendo justifies the subscription as paying for the maintenance cost and continuing to offer the service for future Pokémon titles. There will be a free trial period for a short time after the launch of the Bank to allow users a chance to test out the software before committing.
Pokémon Bank will also allow users to transfer Pokémon from Pokémon Black or White and Black 2 or White 2 to their Pokemon X or Y games using a feature called Poké Transporter. This is bundled with the Pokémon Bank and allows for a user to insert a Black or White or a Black 2 or White 2 cartridge and be able to upload their Pokémon from those games onto the Pokémon Bank for easy transfer to Pokémon X and Y. The Poké Transporter cannot return Pokémon to Pokémon Black or White, or to Pokémon Black 2 or White 2 after they have been stored in an online Box.
In a recent effort to continue down playing the use of illegal Pokémon in tournaments, the Pokémon Bank and Transporter will block illegally obtained Pokémon from being uploaded to the Bank or to move those Pokémon between Boxes.

Press release
“ BELLEVUE, WA—September 4, 2013—Director from GAME FREAK inc., Mr. Junichi Masuda, announced Pokémon Bank—a new Nintendo 3DS application and service that allows Pokémon X and Pokémon Y players to conveniently store up to 3,000 of their beloved Pokémon on the Internet. Pokémon Bank gives players the flexibility to store and deposit 100 Boxes worth of Pokémon. This is in addition to the Boxes found within Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, just like in previous Pokémon titles.
Pokémon Bank software is activated upon payment of an annual service fee. This charge will support maintenance of the online server that allows players to store up to 3,000 Pokémon conveniently, and will provide the application's support for future Pokémon titles. Players who activate Pokémon Bank, will be able to use its linked application, Poké Transporter, which makes transferring many Pokémon caught in other Pokémon games easy. What used to be a lengthy process to transfer Pokémon from a previous Pokémon game to the latest titles is now a breeze with Poké Transporter—just insert Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2, or Pokémon White 2into your Nintendo 3DS system and use Poké Transporter to transfer Pokémon from those games into Pokémon Bank. Pokémon Bank will be available in North America on Nintendo eShop. More details about this software, including a free trial period, will be added to Pokemon.com in the near future. ” | ||
