The Pikachu Cup Wi-Fi tournament has been announced. Only Electric-type Pokémon may be used in this tournament. Players may register between midnight UTC on August 13 and 11:59 p.m. UTC on August 20. The competition will run from midnight UTC on August 21 until 11:59 p.m. UTC on August 23. There will be 50,000 spots available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Rankings will be announced in early Sept.
Players born in 2000 or later will be in the Junior Division. Players born in 1999 or earlier will be in the Masters Division. This competition will use the Double Battles format. Any Electric-type Pokémon from the National Pokédex can be used in the tournament except Thundurus, Zekrom, Raikou, Arceus-Electric, and Zapdos. The entry prize will depend on where Pikachu ranks in the top 12 tournament Pokémon usage list at the end of the competition. If Pikachu makes the top 3, participants will receive a special Pikachu. If Pikachu comes in 4th-12th place, everyone will receive a Light Ball. If Pikachu does not make the top 12, then everyone will receive 1,000 Poké Miles. This Pikachu will have the move Endeavor, which it cannot normally learn.
The Electric Pokémon transferred from the Gen. III-Gen. V games by the Poké Transporter may be used in this competition. Participants must win or lose three battles to receive the entry prize. 4-6 Pokémon must be placed in the Battle Box on the PC prior to battling. Pokémon that are above level 50 will be set to level 50. In each battle, players will use four of their six Pokémon. Every battle will last a maximum of 15 minutes. Participants will have 60 seconds to decide which Pokémon they will bring into the battle. They will have 30 seconds to use a move or switch out their Pokémon. Players may battle 15 times a day for a maximum of 45 total battles.
