The new free-to-start Nintendo 3DS game Pokémon Picross has just been announced. It will be released in Japan, North America, and Europe in early December this year as a Nintendo 3DS download title. It is being developed by Jupiter Corperation.

The game uses classic Picross gamplay to complete pixelated images of Pokémon. When an image is completed, the Pokémon whose picture was made will be caught. Captured Pokémon can be added to the party, with Pokémon in the party being able to use their support skills while completing a puzzle.

Picrites will be the game's premium currency; players can either earn them in-game or purchase them using real money. These can be used to "solve puzzles more effectively".

The game will include all Legendary Pokémon and all Mega Evolutions. It includes over 300 puzzles.

Pokémon Picross is also the name of a cancelled Game Boy game intended to be released in Japan circa spring 1999. Picross NP Vol. 1, an unrelated Pokémon-themed Picross game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, was released exclusively in Japan in April 1999. Both these games were also developed by Jupiter Corperation
