"Learn Real English Through Pokémon: XY Translation Scope" is an app for iPhone just released in Japan that supplements Pokémon X and Y to teach Japanese speakers English. It is free to download, but includes in-app purchases.

The app is compatible with iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. It requires iOS 7.1 or higher, but cannot be run on iOS 8.0 - 8.0.2. It is not compatible with the iPhone 4, iPod Touch, or iPad.

The app helps users learn English by making the learning experience enjoyable, with quizzes on Pokémon English. Users can do quizzes on English Pokédex text, or on filling in memorable lines of character speech, as well as being able to hear each question be spoken aloud. The quizzes also have practice and time attack modes.

The app initially comes with a set of free trial quizzes, including 25 Pokédex text questions and 15 lines of speech questions. Additional questions can be purchased. "More Questions" (¥480) adds a Kalos Pokédex Quiz, which contains Pokédex data for around 450 species to identify from the English versions of Pokémon X and Y, as well as 15 more lines of speech questions, and the ability to add lines of speech found using the photo identification feature into a lines of speech quiz, and unlocks the Practice and Time Attack modes for the quizzes. "Even More Questions" (¥480) adds 400 questions to the lines of speech quiz. After purchasing the "More Questions" and "Even More Questions" add-ons, the app contains roughly 900 questions on English Pokédex text, and over 400 questions on filling in lines of speech.

With the app, you can take a photo of any screen of Pokémon X and Y in English, and the app will find the text and show you the Japanese translation. (This feature is not supported in any other games or languages.)

The app also comes with an English-to-Japanese translation dictionary for Pokémon terms such as their names, species classifications, moves, items, etc. Users can save their favorite translated lines found using the photo identification feature to a favorites list, and bring them up anytime.

Users can listen to pieces of text as well as individual words be spoken aloud to check English pronunciation. (This uses the speech synthesizer built into iOS, so may not pronounce Pokémon names, character names, place names, etc. correctly.)

The app contains medals and ranks that users can achieve by doing well in quizzes. There appears to be a medal for each letter of "POKéMON". The Silver Rank é Medal is shown to be for getting 20 quiz questions right in a row, with the next rank up unlocked after getting 50.
