The January 14 Nintendo Direct revealed that select Wii titles will be available for purchase on the Wii U eShop for US$20.

One of the features of the Wii U console is that it has a Wii Mode, which gives it backwards compatibility with Wii discs. This new form of software available on the eShop allows the games to be played from the Wii U's Home Menu, without Wii Mode.

Additionally, when playing these downloadable Wii games that were playable using the Wii Classic Controller can be played with the Wii U's Game Pad.

Currently the only Wii titles announced for release on the Wii U eShop are Super Mario Galaxy 2, which became available today, Punch-Out!!, which will be available on Jan. 22, and Metroid Prime: Trilogy, which will be available Jan. 29. Each of these games will be downloadable for US$10 during the week they are released.
