Nintendo of America, Europe and Australia have announced the release dates of the Nintendo DSi, the successor to the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite. It will be released April 5 in North America, April 3 in Europe and April 2 in Australia.
The DSi has two cameras — a 3-megapixel camera on the back of the system, and a 0.3-megapixel camera with a maximum resolution of 640x480 that is inside the system's clamshell. It will also have music playback and enhanced speakers and audio. An SD memory card slot has been added to transfer photos and music among the DSi, Wii and computers.
As with the Wii, the DSi features an online store from which applications and games can be bought using Nintendo Points. The system is 12 percent smaller, but because of this, the Game Boy Advance slot has been removed.
In North America, the DSi will come in black or blue and will retail for US$169.99. In Europe, it will be available in black or white, and the price will vary by retailer and country. Finally, in Australia, it will also come in black or white and retail for AU$299.95.
