Of the movies that opened in Japan in 2005 (including the movies that opened at the end of 2004), Pocket Monsters Advanced Generation: Mew and the Wave-Guiding Hero: Lucario came second only to Miyazaki Hayao's Howl's Moving Castle. Other top movies included Densha Otoko and Nana. Tōhō dominated the box office this year, with only one Tōei movie making the top ten.
