The Pokémon Trading Card Game video game for Game Boy Color will be available on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in Japan from Dec. 24, 2014. It will cost ¥617.
While the original game was released for the Game Boy Color, it was also playable on the original Game Boy with some features disabled; in the Virtual Console release, the game can only be played as on the Game Boy Color. While the original game had local multiplayer via link cable and Card Pop! via infrared, these features are disabled in the Virtual Console release.
The game was originally released in Japan on Dec. 18, 1998. The game contains all the cards from the physical card game's Base Set, Jungle, and Fossil expansions, except for Base Set Electrode and Fossil Ditto; the game also includes many exclusive cards, some of which were later printed as physical cards but many still remain exclusive.
The Pokémon Trading Card Game video game was previously released for the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in other regions earlier this year; it was released in the European eShop on July 10, in the Australian eShop on July 11, and in the North American eShop on Nov. 13.
Apart from Game and Watch Gallery 3 (which was released on Dec. 9, but only for people who registered both Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and at least one of Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire), this is the first game to be released on the Japanese Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console since May.
