{{game|Crystal}} is now available on {{bp|Nintendo 3DS}} {{wp|Nintendo eShop|eShop}} for {{bp|Virtual Console}} in North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan. Pokémon Crystal is the definitive edition of the {{bp|Generation II}} {{bp|core series}} games. Pokémon Crystal was the first Pokémon game to offer a female protagonist, as well as the first game to have a {{bp|Battle Tower (Generation II)|Battle Tower}}.

The Virtual Console release supports communication via 3DS local wireless communications. It can trade and battle with other Virtual Console copies of {{bp|Pokémon Gold and Silver Versions|Pokémon Gold, Silver}}, and Crystal; it can also use the {{bp|Time Capsule}} function to communicate with Virtual Console versions of {{game2|Red|Blue|Yellow}}.
As of Jan. 26th, 2018 {{bp|Pokémon Crystal}} is available Worldwide on the 3ds family of systems Virtual Console. The definitive edition of the Second Generation players will be able to experience the games on a new level. The virtual release is offering the GS Ball to players who buy the game.  


This is also the first Pokémon game to offer a female protagonist, and the {{bp|Battle Tower}}. This generation also marks the introduction of Dark and Steel typing's, day/night cycles, and Eggs.  
Using {{bp|Poké Transporter}}, Pokémon from the Virtual Console release of Pokémon Crystal can be sent to {{bp|Pokémon Bank}}, from where they can be moved to {{bp|Pokémon Sun and Moon|Pokémon Sun, Moon}}, {{bp|Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon|Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon}}.


The Wireless Communications on the 3ds family will be fully utilized by the games software, and {{bp|Pokémon Bank}}, and {{bp|Pokémon Transporter}} support will be added soon, so functionality between Crystal and {{bp|Pokémon Ultra Sun}} and {{bp|Pokémon Ultra Moon}} will exist with transporting Pokémon.
In this version of Pokémon Crystal, players can encounter the {{bp|Mythical Pokémon}} {{p|Celebi}} after entering the {{bp|Hall of Fame}}. After entering the {{bp|Hall of Fame}}, when the player enters the {{ci|Goldenrod}} {{bp|Pokémon Center}}/{{bp|Pokémon Communication Center}} they will be given the GS Ball, which is used in a series of events to encounter Celebi. In the original Japanese release of Pokémon Crystal, the player had to connect to the internet using the {{bp|Mobile Game Boy Adapter}} to obtain the GS Ball; it was unobtainable in the Western versions.
