Block It
Put up a line in the .htaccess that catches the user agent and sends them to a "You've been ripped off" page or something. --Navarr 02:01, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- Good idea.--Mtn otter 11:42, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- But it won't necessarily work; a browser (Pokedex App is one, in a way) can set its user agent to pretty much anything; they can imitate a known browser so the blocking of the user agent would also affect innocent people using normal software. UltimateSephiroth 15:14, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- That is the main issue, yes. We don't know exactly where it accesses from, but I would assume it accesses the data much in the same way any user using the site would. So without direct access to the app's coding, we can't directly target it (yet) with such measures. Not without possibly messing up users trying to access the website normally through an iPhone. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 20:53, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Lawsuit?
Is there any way we could sue IPhone for this?--Mtn otter 12:04, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- Can Bulbapedia report this issue to Apple? --Swampert 12:33, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- There is a way to report apps for violations, but I cannot find the link. It seems like a good reason to pull the app, though. --Ceolwulf 16:06, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Add a random Recaptcha
Each time a Pokemon page is accessed, call a Recaptcha. Then set a cookie for i.e 15 minutes. When the cookie expires, display the recaptcha again. Or just display it once. Let's see them implement Recaptcha in that tiiiiny screen. >:)
It won't be easy because they'll need to implement all the Javascript stuff, and then post to Recaptcha. They'll need to display the captcha, the textbox AND the keyboard as well.

- I think that's good for a temporary measure, to stop the server strain while you get it pulled for legal reasons. Spriteless 18:01, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
This sounds like a very good idea. We should do something that will mess it up for them. Sivart345 17:50, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Advert Complaint
I have a problem with some of the advertisements you put up on this site. I'm 13, I don't want to be asked if i want to find a 'hot russian woman'
- Feel free to use another website with less invasive advertisements. Off the top of my head, Serebii.net and veekun.com have nearly all the same game data, and Serebii.net even has most of the anime data as well. If noone visits websites with these ads, then noone will make a profit by posting them.
- Although, I don't see how this complaint goes here, rather than, say, in an administrator's talk page.Spriteless 20:29, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- Also, do note that we have a forum thread specifically set up so you can report bad ads. We don't really want to be asked about hot Russian women either. (we can find them ourselves if we like anyway.) -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 20:50, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Hey I have a great idea
Maybe if you complain a whole bunch they will just stop and everything will work out for you
- Well, I've already sent a strongly worded email to their 'support' and 'feedback' addresses. But honestly, it won't do much good. Their previous 'products' consist of another application that does the same thing to OneManga that they're doing to Bulbapedia, and a Facebook spam bot. I'm pretty certain that scruples are beyond them. =/ Ibm2431 00:38, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- That's what you're not supposed to do, IBM.--Mew a.k.a. Immewnity* was here at 00:54, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, when I said 'strongly worded', I didn't mean "scream profanities at them" or anything. I basically just said to them that the commercialized use of Bulbapedia's resources without compensation (read: theft) and profiting from its work was outright wrong and is unacceptable. On a side note, has it been taken down? I wasn't able to find it in the App Store earlier. Ibm2431 02:14, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Idea
Have you tried telling them of this and requesting that some of the money is given to you? In any case, a different group is working on making a (most-likely free) Pokedex app that goes to Bulbapedia once, gets the data, and then saves it in a cache for offline viewing. That sounds good, right? And sorry for editing this in, but I just found out. Arutoa 04:27, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
- The license specifically is for non-commercial share-alike. Meaning that we can't get paid for it. No one can. TTEchidna 09:13, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Is it dead now?
