Two male suspects have been apprehended this past Friday following alleged threats of violence against the attendees of this year's Pokémon World Championships.
After attempting to enter the Hynes Convention Center, the venue of this year's World Championships, the two suspects were apprehended by detectives from the Boston Regional Intelligence Center (BRIC) and the Boston Police Department on account of alleged posts found on Facebook linking them to the possession of firearms, as well as threats against the participants of this weekend's event.
The Boston PD and BRIC, who received this information from security officers at the convention center, seized the suspects' vehicle after they were unable to provide a gun license. Once they received a search warrant for the vehicle on Friday, they searched it and reportedly found a 12-gauge Remington shotgun, a DPM5 Model AR-15 rifle, several hundred rounds of ammunition, and a hunting knife.
Both suspects were later found at a Saugus hotel and promptly arrested. They were both charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and other firearm-related charges.
An investigation between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Boston Police Department is still underway.
A The Pokémon Company International spokesman said that they were made aware of the alleged threat by community members.
Bulbagarden offers a heartfelt thank-you to the Boston Police Department, the Boston Regional Intelligence Center, event staff, and the Pokémon Company International for working in conjunction to allow this years' Pokémon World Championships to continue unharmed.
