Board of Editors

...I'm on the page, I'm a member, but it's not on my user rights. Was this supposed to be, or is this due to my late entry?--immewnitythemew 13:16, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

You didn't have the same rights as everyone else before, right? We didn't promote anyone while the usergroups were changed.--RexRacer 15:06, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Gotcha. Might clarification be needed on the page, then?

New Page

I want to create a new page so that I can write about my future prodictions on Pokemon without upsetting the Bulbapedia staff, can you please tell me how? Cynthia149 10:00, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

I'll spare RexRacer this one. Put it on a userpage, i.e. User:Cynthia149/Predictions. And yes, userpages are allowed on the 'news, as some think differently.--immewnitythemew 23:53, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Forums article

It isn't old news. The old forums still exist. Please restore the article.--immewnitythemew 18:53, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

You know. NVM.--immewnitythemew 20:29, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Deletion question

you deleeted my artical becasue the infro on movie 13 was already knowen. well INFO for you buddy. not many people outside japan have seen that ad that artical also contained the front sprite of that furball with wings, info saying that Ash will live on and info on the evolutions of the starters--Megamaxxor 17:30, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

We'll talk when you learn to learn to spell properly. Go make a thread on the forums if you're so concerned about letting people know about your links.--RexRacer 20:57, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

THAT WAS UNCALLED FOR I HAVE DISLEXIA--Megamaxxor 22:34, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

No offense, having a disablity shouldn't impair you from writing properly. There are ways around this like using spell check or having someone else read over your article. I hope for your sake you're not making this up. Jello 00:13, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
In addition, any currently seen front sprite is fanmade, and the other things you mentioned are inferred from the anime leak.--immewnitythemew 00:22, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Question

How does a user become a Writer with only one edit?--immewnitythemew 14:03, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

He's a Bulbagarden staff member and it's easier to have a functional news organization when all of your staff members have the means to help out.--RexRacer 16:38, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

why is my article repeating deleted every time its submitted Cpdxd.05

Your article is reporting on something that has been around for years. It's clearly fake. Please stop re-submitting it--RexRacer 16:20, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Sekh Twins

Hey Rex, I've noticed two users having similar names (Sekh1 & Sekh) and I think both accounts belongs to a single person. Can you please check them out? Thank you. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 00:48, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Errors with prepositions

Hello, this is my first time adding text to a page, which, by the way, is yours. Anyway, I was wondering if you or someone who runs this useful Wiki can fix the flaws that keep going on. I'm often seeing instances of the word 'of' in places where they don't belong, like coming right after select prepositions like 'outside' or 'off'. It's rather nightmarish for me to look at, if you ask me. I tried to do something about it, but I'm not able to edit the "News" pages. Would you help me? Thank you very much. --Secret C 21:12, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Link them to me and I'll fix the errors.--RexRacer 22:53, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Dead?

Hey Rex, can I say something? Why our admins are kind of lazy? No offense but users usually post their drafts early while admin move them pretty late. I know that admins have their own lives but still, at least someone should be present. Right now, front page is all messed up, 2 news are waiting in the developing stories and upcoming episodes section is outdated. I am not trying to be rude but since normal users can't edit it, it's admins' responsibility to check these things. Please, do something about it. Thank you ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 15:27, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

I think I can answer this one. The entire hierarchy here is messed up; we've got Board of Editors members without Board of Editor ranking, very inactive admins only granted because of BP admin, etc. That itself explains half of it. Then, when seeing the amount of activity here as compared to Bulbapedia or the Archives, there are maybe eight people editing at one day, which would be peak. Some days there are no edits, some days only one. Also, most of the Writers and admins live in similar time zones, also causing issues. Honestly, a complete re-ranking of Bulbanews stuff would be the only way I can see to fix this.--immewnitythemew 21:58, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Whoops, forgot this other bit: the Upcoming episodes and Upcoming events are set to be moved to Bulbapedia after a Front page redesign, possibly causing some to not care about the sections anymore. You know, these accumulation issues could be best solved by a complete re-do of Bulbanews altogether. No offense, Zhen, but we're using a five year old news system. Half of the templates aren't up to standards. The sidebar is constantly dying. And has anyone really updated the MoS? Right now it's just a big, tl;dr block of text. A third of the stuff isn't even relevant anymore.--immewnitythemew 22:05, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Matt is right, a lot of the administration is kind of screwy right now. We're putting a new system in place with regards to staff by the end of the month, and hopefully with more active editors on staff, changing other things will take less time.--RexRacer 02:31, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank God, hope this works well. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 03:30, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Personality and Development

I sent my column with the fixed templates, this is my Bulbanews account, you can credit me as Thomas Smithurst if you wish or 05308, wichever is more appropriate. Thanks again for letting me be a columnist here, like I said I would like to concentrate on my exams for the next month but after that I'll be writing like mad 05308 09:44, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

MediaWiki Update

I noticed the MediaWiki that Bulbanews uses (and Bulbapedia too!) is outdated. When will it be updated? --Nathan2055 21:22, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

That's up for our techs to decide. We don't update too often because it requires we lock the site down and we don't like doing that, but when the techs say "we gotta update this hunk of junk", it'll happen.--RexRacer 23:12, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I guess that does make since. But, the new version has a lot of new features and an updated UI. --Nathan2055 23:24, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Nathan: The update was simply a security fix. Said UI, the Vector skin, is available on Bulbanews and Bulbapedia, but is disabled due to compatibility issues.
Rex: While a security fix would be needed, wait until MediaWiki 1.17 comes out. The updating process is much smoother, and by far faster. Updates in less than ten minutes.--immewnitythemew 18:52, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
What are the compatibility issues? --Nathan2055 19:22, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
I believe that the ads aren't displaying correctly on other skins (for logged out users, of course). Though, such a skin wouldn't have issues for logged-in users, would it?--immewnitythemew 19:54, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

E-Mail?

I attempted to send an e-mail to [email protected] asking if I could write a column, but I keep getting error notices from my e-mail site. Do you know what I can do about it? :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 01:45, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Just send an e-mail directly to me using the "email this user" thing on the side of my profile. That'll happen from time to time where people can't email the editor account....--RexRacer 02:56, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, but on the Creative Commons thing, apparantley I have one, but how do I prove it? :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 02:59, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Never mind. I already sent it. :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 03:05, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Just say what license you want to publish under. Virtually everyone on Bulbanews uses CC BY-NC-SA, but if you really want to I guess you could use a different one, though that'd be a pain in the ass. You don't really need to worry about that but if you want to you can get a basic overview of what it means in Bulbanews:Copyrights. If there is something in there that you don't like, you can let us know but it'll make posting your piece much more complicated.--RexRacer 03:09, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Wait; Archaic just today told me to send press releases to the [email protected] account. Does the email work, or is it just finicky?--immewnitythemew 04:11, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
I got the one that I posted but I think that's because he CC'd my personal Bulbagarden account as well. It's very well possible that the redirect is broken. I'll ask about that. Thanks for reminding me you two.--RexRacer 06:20, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

"Opinion piece"

Well, wouldn't it help if you guys explained properly what the difference is between an editorial, opinion, and those? Breaking news, local news, general news, rumors, and features article kind of speak for themselves. What's the difference between a column and an opinion column? Editorial, I got the impression it was made by the higher-ups. Opinion piece seemed to be the only one it fit under, I suppose. ArcToraphim 04:07, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

I believe the difference between an opinion column and a regular column is that a regular column is written by a Bulbanews staff member and an opinion column comes from someone outside. We aren't too strict about enforcing that standard though.--RexRacer 23:25, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Re-Email

You asked me to re-send my column application to you again, and I was wondering if you got it or if I need to send it again. Thanks. :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 18:52, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Send it again.--RexRacer 22:58, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
I did. :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 17:39, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Bulbagraphic questions

Hi, I'm new on Bulbanews, so right now I have 2 questions about the magazine:

  • Which is the adequate software to open mobi files? I downloaded the e-book magazine and the computer was unable to open it. I searched in on the windows website, and it said the extension is unknown. How can I open that extension???
  • Do all the news published just on Bulbanews get the possibility of being selected to be in the magazine? Also, can I instead of writing an article about something new, write a report about a curiosity that was not recently discovered?
